Keep the line at the centre of the design

RL concentrates the working points into a liner tip. That geometry makes it a useful choice where the mark itself defines the drawing: a letter’s curve, the boundary of a traditional shape or a repeating geometric contour. A smaller grouping gives you a more compact working footprint; more points create a broader liner choice for stronger boundaries.

Choose RL for the contour stage, then add a shader for colour or tonal areas. Thunder Pro RS opens the circular grouping for compact fills and transitions, while a magnum serves broader areas. This lets each tip work on the part of the design it is shaped to handle.

Choose needle body and grouping together

0803RL and 0805RL are useful starting choices for finer grouped outlines: both use 0.25 mm needle wire, with three or five points respectively. Choose three for a smaller grouped tip, or five for a broader grouped working footprint. For a single working point, compare 0401RL at 0.18 mm or 0801RL at 0.25 mm.

The 10 series uses 0.30 mm wire and the 12 series 0.35 mm. Both include groupings from 1 to 14 points among the current options. A configuration such as 1207RL gives you seven 0.35 mm points; choose that direction when the contour calls for a more substantial grouping rather than a fine single point. The 08 range offers 1, 3, 5 and 7 points.

Use the complete Style to combine those two decisions. Needle diameter changes the individual wire; point count changes the grouping. Choose around the line you want to make, then keep that Style ready in the pack size you use.
